Police Arrest 1,774 Suspected Criminals, Rescue Scores of Kidnapped Victims in May and June.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has disclosed that the Nigerian Police Force has arrested 1,774 criminal suspects and rescued scores of kidnap victims in a string of nationwide operations between April and May 2025.
Speaking at a meeting with strategic police managers in Abuja on Wednesday , Egbetokun said the operations led to the recovery of 274 firearms, 2,583 rounds of ammunition, and 187 stolen and unregistered vehicles.
GALAXY TV reports that the IGP highlighted key breakthroughs including the dismantling of a major kidnapping syndicate in Kaduna State, the arrest of insurgent suspects in Anambra, the rescue of 25 kidnapped Ivorian nationals, and the extradition of a Nigerian fugitive from the United Arab Emirates over a $307,500 fraud case.
He acknowledged the complexity of Nigeria’s security landscape, from insurgency in the Northeast to kidnapping, cultism, and cybercrime, and urged officers to stay resilient.
Egbetokun announced reinforced operational logistics and supervision mechanisms, while reiterating the force’s zero tolerance for police misconduct.
He encouraged citizens to report abuses via verified complaints platforms.
The IGP vowed that the police would remain relentless in the fight against crime, promising a more professional, accountable, and citizen-focused force.
